RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov 14, 2007 (AFP) - - AC Milan's Brazilian midfielder Kaka has admitted that he is considering quitting Italian football amid the increasing violence and scandals surrounding the sport in the country.
Kaka was speaking after the shooting dead of football supporter Gabriele Sandri, 28, by a policeman during a scuffle between rival fans at the weekend sparked violent clashes in several Italian cities, particularly Rome and Milan, leading to the suspension of matches.
The violence follows a match-fixing scandal which rocked the Serie A last season, and has left the 25-year-old, who is in the running for the World Football of the Year title, considering his future.
"It's not the first time that this has happened," said Kaka after training with the Brazilian team ahead of qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup here on Tuesday night.
"Last year there was a scandal in Italian football. There was also similar violence (to this year).
"Sport is a leisure which should be played with pleasure. When it's not like that you have to find alternatives."
Kaka, who is the highest earning footballer in Italy, added that it was not just up to the government to deal with the problem, but for players as well.
"I think that all players should act to find a solution as quickly as possible. This is something that goes beyond football. There is a social problem in the country and people are bringing this into the stadia."
